The micro-sized .380s that have arrived on the scene in recent years have reduced dimensions to the point that they are difficult to control even for the most accomplished shooters. The CZ 83's combination of small size and moderate weight easily handles the new generation of high-performance defensive ammo that has become available for 'pocket' pistol calibers from leading ammo manufacturers. The DA/SA trigger mechanism operates in the same manner as the CZ 75. The 83 can be carried 'cocked and locked' with the hammer back and the safety on for single action operation, or it may be manually decocked for hammer-down carry. When carried in the decocked position, the safety lever does not need to be de-activated, but instead the first shot is double action and subsequent shots are single action. The CZ 83 features an ambidextrous manual safety and magazine catch.
Along with its superior shootability, the 83 boasts twice the magazine capacity (12+1 in .380) of its tiny competitors.

I've had my CZ-83 (380) since around 1991/1992, bought it while I was stationed in Germany with the AF. Lord only knows how many rounds I have put through this gun. Still looks new, fires like a champ, and the wife and daughter love to shoot it. Never ever had any type of issues with it. Many friends over the years have laughed at it until shooting it, only to be amazed. Wouldn't trade it for the world!
I started out to buy a well made reliable CCW pistol. I was leaning towards the surplus Makarovs and compatible Soviet Bloc handguns. Seeing that the CZ82 had a higher capacity magazine, I decided to try it. The pistol had a poor black polymer paint finish but was a beauty of design and function. Duracoat refinishing made it look like new and function flawlessly. I liked it so much I bought a second one. My wife liked it since it fit her hands and was so accurate, that I bought two CZ83's in .380ACP. This is as near as perfect a weapon to carry for protection as can be found, and the quality of materials and fit and finish makes it a real candidate to be handed down to my children as a family treasured possession. Thanks CZ for making this fine pistol, and keeping it in STEEL! Oh! I changed the grips to Marschalsgrips that are the great finishing touches.
Such a well built gun I am buying a cz 83 380. my 82 is accurate and fun to shoot
Got my cz83 home a couple weeks ago, purchased one after trying one at the range...just felt right. Ran 1000 rounds right out of the box with no cleaning (Cheap/dirty ammo, hollow points/fmj of various profiles) and not ONE malfunction...even purposefully limp wristing when the weapon was horribly powder fouled. Accurate out to 25 yards offhand; even rapid fire most rounds stayed in a 5" target at that distance.
I have always loved the blowback style firearms such as the Makarov and Walther ppk. And after researching for a month or two I decided that the CZ 83 would be the one I bought. Well, one gun show later and it was mine! I had read all kinds of reviews about how well they perform but I kept my hopes "reasonable" and didn't fully expect it to live up to all it's hype.. Boy was I wrong to do that, it fires superbly and never once had any failures right out of the box. 150 rounds later and it still hadn't so much as thought about failing to eject or fire. The ammo used was Winchester Whitebox 95 grain, and Remmington Golden Saber 102 grain. I love it's action and feel. GREAT firearm, quit researching and just buy one already!
What a weapon! Simple to clean and it is the best 380 I have shot. Beretta, Tarus, and ruger 380's are stiff and frankly after 50 rounds I just want to quit shooting. So I now own CZs in the calibers 380, 9mm, 40mm, and 45.CZ please continue making guns simple, functional, resonable in price, and most all fun to shoot.
This is one awesome pistol! Fit, finish, balance, reliability, POI to POA... all excellent. Add in price and you have mind blowing weapon! Im having too much fun shooting this one to think about buying another pistol. But when I do, it will definitely be a CZ!!!
On the day I received my Carry Permit in June of 2002, I marched down to my local dealer and bought a blued .380. I had not fired a pistol since my service in the Army in the 1970's, so I was somewhat apprehensive. By about 2 hours later, however, I was ecstatic that my military training and experience had only gone dormant, to be awakened by my CZ-83. I went home and promptly disassembled and cleaned the pistol. After many trips to my local range on weeknights and weekends, I found my confidence in accurately firing my CZ pistols continued to grow, and today I own five CZ pistols, along with two Kadet adapters for my twin CZ-75-BD's. I enjoy and love every one of them. And it all started with a CZ-83.
I bought an 83 from an outlet that obtains police trade-ins. Czech police trade-ins. I lucked into a gun that appeared to have never been fired or holstered, and I only paid $225.00 for it. It is more accurate that my Glock 19, and it feels better built. The 83 is a sweet gun at retail, but if you can get a good trade-in... Get two!
This is a perfect first gun for someone who wants to learn about guns and its accurate, reliable, and easily breakdowns
I carry my CZ 83 in a Simply Rugged concealed carry rig. It's weight lets you know it's there, but it is manageable. It has ALWAYS fed reliably with ANY type of ammo put through it, even junk factory target loads. I keep it clean, and it just keeps on putting rounds downrange. CZ is a great company and their pistols are under priced in my opinion. I paid a solid $400 for my pistol and received $800 worth of gun. I love it to death and I would easily put my life on its functioning any day of the week, 365 days a year.
My cz-83 (.380acp) is by far the most reliable handgun i've ever owned. I've yet to have a single failure to fire under any circumstance, this pistol has fired at least 1,000 rounds to date. (and I purchased it used) In my opinion this is the perfect concealed carry weapon, easy to use, ambidextrous, good sights, excellent accuracy and easily controllable... Everyone I've let fire it swears they will buy one. I've since sold all my other handguns, with the exception of my surplus cz-52...an antique, that again has never once failed. From now on it's CZ for me! In my opinion, the finest firearms available anywhere!
